Sue Rudland
I’m an artist working from my studio in Silverstone, Northamptonshire, where I’m happy to welcome visitors.
My work is figurative - portraits of people and animals and still-life of food, in oils, pastels and mixed media. In my paintings of food, my aim is to evoke memories of taste, aromas and colours, be it juicy, red strawberries, or the crunch of newly baked bread. In my portraits, I try to capture a fleeting expression or mood to portray the character, be it a daft dog or a pensive person! Colour, pattern and texture play an important part in all my paintings. I love rich, lively colours and the rhythms found in patterns.
Trips to the South of France have inspired paintings of grapevines through the seasons. I have been experimenting with mixed media overpainted with oil glazes, to achieve the rich colours and textures on the leaves and the gnarled trunks of the vines. These experiments have resulted in several large triptych works and have spilled over to the smaller paintings of food.
I studied at The West of England College of Art and at Goldsmiths College, London. My work has been exhibited at the Mall Galleries, London, galleries nationwide and can be found in private collections both at home and abroad.
Commissions welcome.
